Glass and Modern Technologies 2007

November 27-30 2007, Moscow, Russia

7th International Exhibition

Glass Industry in Russia

Economic growth, observed in Russia, has been accelerated in 2006. This also concerns to production of sheet glass, multiple glass panes, glass containers, furniture glass, glass for house and transport. Stock of orders was constantly increasing and reached 100% production capacities.

In the long term all signs of further economics restoration and high growth are observed. In the view of Russian producers of glass goods and equipment for glass industry, the situation in 2006 was more than satisfactory. More than 2000 enterprises relate to our industry, including 500 large and average companies with about 500 thousands of workers. Many of these companies are members of "StekloSouz" - 72% of sheet glass companies, 67% of glass containers, 100% of machine-building enterprises, 80% of furnace producers, 60% of enriched sand producers, 100% of refractories producers etc. It can be said in confidence that glass industry realized itself as independent industry of economics of Russia and overpassed stereotype of presenting at other industries' exhibitions

As a result of improvement of situation in glass industry in 2006, the increase in turnover of producers of machines and equipment for glass industry for 2 billion roubles took place. The reasons of such increase were the raising of domestic demand to 36% and improvement of regional markets in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The boom at growing market of Russia and positive signs, observed in CIS, became a reason, that didn't allow to fully satisfy the requirements of national market of glass. As before, inspite of high growth of domestic manufacture, Russia imports significant quantity of sheet glass and glass containers. Naturally, the sale to main customers of our production, i.e. glass containers and sheet glass, requires differentiate estimation by industries and regions.

It is expected that in 2007 further recovery of Russian economics and increase of demand for sheet glass up to 230 million square meters, and glass containers to 12 billions pieces will take place. Development of technologies in glass production will be determined by high level of customer's requirements. Innovations and compliance as well as consumers involvement are necessary to fit requirements of customers.
